Shoebox Memories can help you preserve your irreplaceable, aging home movies by converting/transferring your old film reels (such as 8mm, Super 8, and 16mm film reels) to the modern DVD format. Converting your film to DVD is not only a wise investment in your priceless memories, but is also a great gift idea! You can even offer our services via gift certificate if you prefer.

Benefits of Converting to DVD

DVD playerAs time passes, your film (and the valuable home movies they contain) get increasingly more brittle. The mechanical nature of watching film reels, storage conditions, and mother nature in general causes them to degrade over time. You can extend the life of your memories by making the conversion to DVD today! We can help you convert a single reel, or your entire home film library to DVD!

DVD's will last approximately 100 years, and the quality will be exactly the same every time you watch it. Plus, you'll get the added benefit of DVD random-access, meaning you'll be able to skip to the best parts of the DVD quickly.

To give you some guidance, the most common reel size we encounter is the 3-inch diameter variety. Each of these reels holds approximately 50 feet of footage and is good for about 3 minutes worth of video. Larger reels will obviously hold more footage and thus yield more video. Each DVD can hold up to 2 hours of digital high-quality video, and you may optionally choose to have multiple film reels consolidated on to a single DVD. We can even help you convert your entire home film and video library to DVD! Think of the space you'll save, alone!

the Shoebox Memories Difference

Not all film-to-dvd transfer/conversion services are the same. Some companies simply project your film onto a screen in a closet and use a consumer-quality video camera to capture the video. This tends to lead to a "transfer" (if you can truly call it that) of limited quality. Unfortunately in some cases, the vendor's focus is on generating a volume of business. Be cautious of those who would offer you a price that's "too good to be true," and make sure the service you choose offers you everything you want in your DVD.

Shoebox Memories is not like these - we're different. This isn't something you do everyday, so make sure you get it done right! Quality is something we focus on, while at the same time providing a fair price to our customers.

We think your precious memories deserve much more personal attention and care. We offer MUCH more than simple and unattractive textual DVD menus (see sample graphics at right) and/or simple paper sleeves and ordinary jewel cases. Our process uses high-resolution, high-quality transfer equipment (a professional-grade telecine system) to give you the best possible results. We include motion preview DVD menus, not just static snapshots or text. We also fully customize your order to meet your needs, and we treat your film as if they were our own family's memories - all at a very reasonable cost. We're also local to the Washington DC area, so we're probably just a short drive away -- although we do accept orders from customers nationwide.

Your irreplaceable memories on old film reels deserve better - let Shoebox Memories help!
